Second round of grants awarded through the Workforce Innovation Fund
WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will hold a press call on Wednesday, May 14, to announce the second round of grants available to states through the Workforce Innovation Fund. Secretaries Perez and Pritzker will encourage state workforce agencies, local workforce investment boards and other entities eligible to apply for grants under Section 166 of the Workforce Investment Act by June 18, 2014.
These grants will:
- help deliver services more efficiently and effectively for dislocated workers and the long-term unemployed;
- facilitate cooperation across programs and funding; and
- help scale practices and improve cost efficiency by building knowledge about effective practices through rigorous evaluation.
Approximately $171 million was awarded in the first round of grants through the Workforce Innovation Fund, which included $147 million in July 2012 for 26 grants and $24 million in October 2013 for two Pay for Success grants. First round grantees are successfully working with local and regional employers, industry groups, and state commerce and development offices to strengthen their employer partnerships.
