The California Endowment Launches Health Happens with Everyday Courage Event Series to Support Community-Based Solutions for Building Resilience to Chronic Stress and Trauma

RZA, James Redford, Krista Tippett and More Join Largest Statewide HealthCare Foundation to Advance Solutions To Prevent Trauma and Reverse its Harmful Consequences

WHAT:

The California Endowment will launch a new event series “Health Happens with Everyday Courage,” championing community-based resources needed to build resilience to repeated stress and trauma. Stress, especially traumatic stress experienced at a young age, has become an epidemic in the United States. However, research shows that well-timed interventions by schools, health groups and community organizations can help children and adults heal and thrive.

The series will explore research, policies and practices to help communities overcome adversity and provide a path to make health happen in our schools, neighborhoods, health clinics and homes.

During the half-day keystone event, inspiring creatives, top researchers and community members will share their tales of resilience to show that there is everyday courage in all of us. Guests include: James Redford, Documentary Filmmaker, Forthcoming “Paper Tigers”; RZA, Wu-Tang Clan Leader, Author of “Tao of Wu,” Actor, Director and Screenwriter, and Krista Tippett, Host/Executive Producer of the NPR radio show, “On Being.”

Stress, especially traumatic stress experienced at a young age, has become an epidemic In the United States. Recent studies show two out of every three children are experiencing trauma; that is 46 million children who suffer from violence, witness abuse, or endure neglect on a regular basis. Childhood trauma can lead to serious longterm physical and socio-emotional issues. Those affected, struggle in school, suffer from depression, and get into trouble with the law.

Solutions to reverse the effects of trauma exist.Research shows that well-timed interventions by schools, health groups and community organizations can help us heal and thrive.
