WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass., July 10, 2014 – On Friday, July 11th at Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA, Shaw’s President Jim Rice will present a check for $50,000 to Project RISE, an education-focused nonprofit that provides services to at-risk kids from the Boston area, led by Rob Dixon. Joining Rice and Dixon will be Boston City Council Member Tito Jackson, State Representative Dan Cullinane, and representatives from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office and Neighborhood Services.
Project RISE, which stands for Respect, Integrity and Success through Education, hosts a seven-week academic and cultural enrichment camp for 150 children ages 8-17 and is in its 21st year. Dixon and RISE have played crucial roles in impacting the lives of children and the communities in which they reside. Over the years, both Project RISE and Dixon have been recognized for the work they’ve done with inner city youth, including the People Magazine / Major League Baseball “All Star Among Us” and the Boston Celtics “Heroes Among Us”.
“Shaw’s donation to Project RISE will have an immediate impact in the lives of the children we work with. More important than the financial support is Shaw’s commitment to our organization this summer. Whether it is the healthy foods Shaw’s is providing for breakfast and lunch, the new culinary education program, or the time their team will spend working with the kids, I welcome Shaw’s with open arms to the Project RISE family”, said Dixon.
“I am proud that Shaw’s can support Project RISE this summer. Giving children the opportunity to gain academic ground and prepare for higher education builds a better future for everyone in Boston. We’re excited to be able to help Project RISE in its mission and look forward to generating positive results for the kids, their communities and our team,” said Rice.
