Save a Pet Seeks Community Help to Care for 30 Dogs Following Death of Rescue Group Owner

Press Release – LONG ISLAND, New York – (August 28, 2017) – It’s not every day that a pet rescue organization gets a call to help rescue 30 dogs, but that’s exactly what happened last week when tragedy struck in Marion County, Texas. Save a Pet, located in Long Island, New York, has a great reputation for helping dogs around the nation find homes. They received a call that there were 30 dogs in need of rescuing at one Jefferson, Texas-based animal rescue, after the owner of the rescue was allegedly murdered following a dispute with a neighbor. The organization swiftly moved in to help the dogs in need, and is now reaching out to the public for assistance in caring for the dogs and in finding them adoption families.

“This is a heart-breaking story from all ends,” says Dori Scofield, president of Save-A-Pet and the vice president of Guardians of Rescue. “Taking in dogs from other states is never the priority at our Long Island shelter, but this case is time-sensitive and these dogs needed rescuing immediately.”

The owner of the Rebel Rescue, where the dogs came from, Amy Allen, gave hundreds of animals a second chance. News reports indicate that a neighborly dispute may have been what led to the alleged murder of the woman. Her neighbor has been arrested on suspicion of murder. An autopsy on Allen is pending to determine the cause of death.

Many of the rescued dogs are expected to need veterinary care, and the group includes a pregnant mixed breed dog, creating the need for even more loving adoption homes. In addition to the much-needed veterinary care, expenses include transport fees, and food. The Save a Pet rescue group will incur a lot of expenses to care for the dogs until they each find homes to be adopted into.

“Amy was a wonderful, compassionate humanitarian and it is a great loss to the animal rescue community. While our shelter is already full, it is our mission to help rescue dogs in need, so we are ready to take on this challenge,” added Scofield. “We are asking the public to help us by donating whatever funds they can as this is quite an undertaking. Every dollar donated will be put to good use caring for these rescues. We need the financial assistance to help care for them while they are with us, and we need families who want to make one of these dogs a part of their family.”
