The Philanthropy Workshop Appoints Jo Ensor Director, London

The Philanthropy Workshop (TPW) today announced the appointment of Jo Ensor as director where she will oversee TPW’s UK and Europe services and programs. The London-based Institute for Philanthropy and the San Francisco-based The Philanthropy Workshop West legally merged earlier this year.

“Jo is a respected, experienced leader in the field of philanthropy with an unmatched commitment to The Philanthropy Workshop’s mission,” said Glen Galaich, CEO of The Philanthropy Workshop. “She has distinguished herself by her experience, perspective, and passion, and we are fortunate to have her lead TPW’s expanded efforts in the UK and Europe.”

Jo has more than twenty years experience working in international development. Most recently, she worked in the philanthropy sector, as director of philanthropy for CAF, where she was responsible for promoting global philanthropy in the BRICS countries, supporting the philanthropic programs of high net worth individuals and developing corporate social responsibility and social investment programs for large corporate foundations.

“I am thrilled to be in a position to help lead The Philanthropy Workshop’s efforts in the UK and Europe,” said Jo. “Strategic philanthropy is a rigorous discipline, requiring an excellent grounding in both theory and practice. TPW is uniquely qualified to assist philanthropists who are intellectually curious and seriously committed to making purpose-driven, sustainable impact.”

Jo is a graduate of Oxford University and has a Masters in Development Economics from SOAS, University of London. She has worked at the community level in more than 30 countries in Africa and Asia, and has been CEO of the African health charity, AMREF. She also has been CEO of a venture philanthropy fund and trustee of a number of global grantmaking foundations and charities.

Founded in 1995, The Philanthropy Workshop (www.TPW.org) is the leader in ongoing strategic philanthropy education and networking—inspiring individuals and families to give better. With offices in San Francisco, New York, and London, the TPW member network of more than 350 philanthropists is the largest of its kind and unique to the field of philanthropy. Members invest their time, talent, treasure, and networks as a means of affecting purpose-driven, sustainable change.
