SAN DIEGO, Dec 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — To support nonprofits and the final year-end giving push, Posiba’s givn app is highlighting 3 nonprofits who are competing in their givn #SparkTheGood Contest, including Animal Rescuers Without Borders (ARWOB), Lighthouse Cares Foundation and Crossroads Youth & Family Services.
With the 2015 year-end giving season coming to a close, nonprofits and donors are in the final 10-day countdown and competition to win over $25,000 in the givn #SparkTheGood contest. Nine winners (3 nonprofits and 6 donor nominated nonprofits) will be selected based on the most “sparks” or social media engagements (Shares, Likes, Retweets and Comments) through the givn.social website and the givn app.
Anyone (donors, volunteers and nonprofits) can sign up for a fun and free givn.social account, and “spark the good” simply by sharing their favorite charities and support with friends on social media (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) to help nonprofits win $10,000 (1st prize), $7,500 (2nd prize) and $5,000 (3rd prize).
In addition to nonprofit winners, donors with the most engagement (“sparks”) by year-end will win money to donate to their favorite cause, including $2,500 (1st prize), $1,000 (2nd prize) and $500 (3rd prize). Learn how donors can help their favorite nonprofit.
Posiba designed givn to increase the social impact of charity support by leveraging social media. According to ORC’s International Caravan Survey, the statistics show that sharing charitable donations through social media multiplies the results:
- 70% would take action if asked by a friend on social media.
- More than 1/3 would like a friend’s post about donating to charity.
- 1 in 4 would donate to charity if asked by a friend on social media.
- Nearly 1 in 5 make a donation after seeing a friend’s post.
To provide an additional push for participating nonprofits of the Givn #SparkTheGood Contest, Posiba asked all entries to submit blog posts with an impact story for the givn.social blog and for this press release. The top 3 blogs selected include these nonprofits, who are helping to get the word out about their good deeds for supporters and their networks.
- Animal Rescuers Without Borders (ARWOB), who help the most vulnerable homeless cats and dogs on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. Among the 400 animals rescued, nursed, fostered, and adopted to loving families in 2015 were ten dogs saved from starvation and disease in what is called “OPERATION FREEDOM”. The ten OPERATION FREEDOM dogs, including Hope, Dream, Will and, of course, Freedom, lived in extreme squalor where they were chained all day without shelter. With some TLC and medical care, these resilient pups blossomed and nine were adopted, ending with Wish Bone, the handsome boxer mix adopted in August.
- Lighthouse Cares Foundation (started in 2009 by a small group of Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church members) helps families with home repairs and takes meals to sick and incapacitated members. This group also does community work such as cleaning and repairs at the Boys & Girls Club, battered women shelters and home repairs for homeowners that could not afford or were able to do themselves, and blood donation drives for the San Diego Blood Bank. This year, Lighthouse Cares Foundation gave away 120 Thanksgiving dinner baskets, consisting of a gift certificate for a turkey and all the trimmings for a dinner. In partnership with another church, they will host a Christmas dinner with gifts for everyone (blankets, tarps, coats, care package of hygiene items, clothing, toys for the children and a hot meal for the needy and homeless).
- Crossroads Youth & Family Services supports healthy lifestyles and emotional well-being of children, youth, and families through the provision of effective, community-based programs. They shelter children who lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina and the Oklahoma Bombing, counsel children from abandoned families, and prepare children for kindergarten while helping their parents find jobs. The organization acknowledges talent and encourages volunteers to do the same, for the more than 300 children who come through their doors each year.
With 30% of all US donations happening in December and 12% of annual giving in the last 3 days, it’s not too late to enter the givn #SparkTheGood Contest and have donations multiply by word-of-mouth marketing.
