ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
Making Hope Visual presents powerful designs that have brought the United Nations’ message to life, engaging diverse audiences in all corners of the world and making a positive impact on their lives. Major geopolitical milestones in peacekeeping, human rights, development, justice and environment are distilled into eye-catching visuals including logos, posters, and many other design products.
These transcultural artworks, created by Matías Delfino, represent graphic design solutions designed for a wide variety of projects including public outreach campaigns, conferences and publications, as well as commemorative days, years and decades.
While communicating across borders using universal terms, these images all address the same challenge: being understood by people of different cultures with different languages. The designs depict ideas and values that are timeless. Through them, we gain a fresh perspective on the human condition.
Making Hope Visual is about the power of graphic design as a tool for social change, bringing simple visual solutions to complex themes to be understood across the globe.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Matías Delfino believes in the power of design to improve the quality of life for all people. As an international civil servant working at the United Nations in New York since 2000, he applies his unique problem-solving skills to help others.
Born and raised in Argentina, Delfino graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires with a degree in Graphic Design. He is a team member of the United Nations in-house Graphic Design Unit in New York, where he maintains a high level of expertise in the areas of strategic branding and integrated communication design.
Whether developing the visual branding for a major international campaign in six languages or designing materials for a high-level conference, Delfino’s understanding of cultural diversity is present in all his creations. This is an important factor given that his creations reach the UN’s 193 member states.
Described by the Wall Street Journal as the “logo maker that thinks globally”, Delfino has received several distinctions and awards, including Graphis’s Gold Award and prizes from Graphic Design USA. His creations have also been recognized by the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of Argentina and the Israeli Postal Service. Matías has served as a juror for design in prestigious festivals and competitions, such as the New York Festival International Advertising Awards, the International Advertising Association and Design 21.
