Las Vegas’ Honey Salt Kicks Off Second Annual Summer Of Love Campaign Benefitting Green Our Planet

Elizabeth Blau and Chef Kim Canteenwalla Launch Month Long Promotion Supporting Educational and Environmental Charity

LAS VEGAS, NV (July 20, 2015) – James Beard nominated restaurateur Elizabeth Blau and award winning Chef Kim Canteenwalla are bringing a focus on community, education, and charity to their beloved local dining spot Honey Salt this August with the second Summer of Love. The month long charitable campaign will kick off on August 1st, 2015, and raise funds for Las Vegas based Green Our Planet with the goal of funding the construction of a brand new educational garden at a local elementary school. Throughout the month Honey Salt will be offering daily specials, in-restaurant promotions, and a series of events to support Green Our Planet, which boasts the one of the fastest growing school garden programs in the country. Produce grown in existing school gardens will be featured as often as harvest schedules allow, and Summer of Love offerings will include daily food and drink specials as well as a Kick off Cocktail Reception on August 3rd, Staff Volunteer Day where team members tend to local gardens during summer break, The Summer of Love Farm Table Dinner on August 17th, and a Closing Cocktail Reception. A portion of proceeds from all specials sold during the month, as well as all of the events, will go towards funding the construction of a brand new educational garden at a local elementary school.

The Summer of Love Farm Table Dinner, a very special version of the restaurant’s popular monthly series, will feature an all vegetarian menu prepared by Chef Brett Uniss. Green Our Planet‘s mission is to raise money for green projects and to educate the public about the most pressing environmental issues facing the planet today. The overall goal is to help conserve, protect, and improve the environment through funding green projects and through education, which includes STEM, nutrition and conservation education in K-12 schools.

Green Our Planet is a non-profit conservation organization based in Las Vegas Nevada. Green Our Planet runs one of the fastest-growing school garden programs in the United States, The Outdoor Garden Classroom Program. Since March 2013 Green Our Planet has helped fund garden classrooms in 75 schools in the Clark County School District through its crowdfunding platform where the public and local businesses partner to fund gardens and projects that teachers carry out in the gardens.

“Green Our Planet is excited to be partnering with Honey Salt on the Summer of Love campaign this August to help raise money to build a school garden in a Title 1 CCSD school,” said GOP Co-CEO Ciara Byrne. “Honey Salt has been a great partner to Green Our Planet over the past two years providing chefs to carry out chef demonstrations with vegetables from the school gardens for students at many schools, inviting students to prepare the vegetables from their garden at their restaurant and in general promoting healthy eating at the schools where Green Our Planet has gardens.”

The organization is partnering with Honey Salt, the first independent venture from hospitality visionaries Elizabeth Blau and Chef Kim Canteenwalla, located on the Westside of Las Vegas. Inspired by the couple’s passion for entertaining, as well as their friends and family, Honey Salt offers a glimpse into Elizabeth and Kim’s culinary life at home. The regularly changing all-day menu is executed by Chef Brett Uniss and features ingredient driven small plates, woodfired pizzas, hearty salads, and larger entrees (available after 5:00 PM), as well as “Cole’s Corner,” a fun yet foodie kids menu created with the couple’s son. From the relaxed sophistication of the design to the seasonally inspired menu, Honey Salt features the food, drinks and hospitality the couple has shared with friends and family for years.
