Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau Partners With The Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation To Give The Gift Of Lasting Memories

The Destination Hosted a Family Affected by Cancer on an Unforgettable Getaway

Press Release – FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – DECEMBER 1, 2017 – The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is making this holiday season impactful by partnering with The Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation (JAJF) to give a family the gift of creating lasting memories. The destination “adopted” a family, giving children, whose parents are fighting cancer, a time out to enjoy an all-expenses-paid vacation to Greater Fort Lauderdale November 6-9, 2017.

The destination hosted the Collins family, whose father died from cancer and whose mother is undergoing aggressive treatment for late-stage metastatic breast cancer in their hometown of Pine River in Minnesota, at the Riverside Hotel minutes from the sandy white beaches of Fort Lauderdale, and walking distance from the city plazas. The family enjoyed the destination’s family-friendly attractions, including: an airboat ride at the Sawgrass Recreation Park and deep-sea fishing with Captain Steve from Fantastic Fishing Charters; getting their feet wet by sailing and snorkeling Fort Lauderdale’s “Aquatic Playground” with Spirit of Lauderdale Catamaran and Yacht Charters; go-kart racing, bowling, and playing arcade games at the Xtreme Action Park; and exploring the city above the water, sightseeing cruises aboard the Water Taxi that provide views of the Intercoastal Waterway.

“It was a special experience to have the opportunity to host the remarkable Collins family in Greater Fort Lauderdale through JAJF’s amazing mission,” said Stacy Ritter, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Working together with our tourism community, we were happy to have been able to provide a little relief, even if for a short period of time, for their family to put a pause on cancer treatments and create lasting memories for the family.”

JAJF’s mission is to treat families with unforgettable experiences and give children who will lose their mom or dad to cancer a timeout to create indispensable memories as a family while they can. The organization’s unique approach has supported, and impacted hundreds of families lives from 44 states since 2006.
