Over $100,000 in Prizes Go To Organizations With Highest Number of Unique Donors
Press Release – August 1, 2016, San Francisco, CA…..Give OUT Day, the only national day of giving for the LGBTQ community, is a 24-hour online fundraising event that unites the LGBTQ community from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C. Give OUT Day 2016 will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm Eastern. Give OUT Day was launched in 2013 by Bolder Giving with support from the Kevin J. Mossier Foundation and is now a project of Horizons Foundation.
Throughout the day-long event, thousands of people make gifts to support a diverse array of LGBTQ nonprofits across the country, ranging from the arts to social services agencies, advocacy groups to sports leagues, community centers to health care nonprofits.
“It would be hard to find an LGBT person who hasn’t, at one time or another, turned to an LGBTQ nonprofit at some point in our lives. Give OUT Day is an opportunity to engage new donors and support our LGBGTQ organizations for their tireless efforts, often working with limited resource,” said Roger Doughty, President of Horizons Foundation.
“We have made great progress in the fight for equality but there is much more to do. This is no time to be complacent,” continued Doughty. “Horizons Foundation’s research shows that not even 5% of LGBT people give direct financial support to LGBTQ organizations. That’s just one in 20. We can do better. One very simple and tangible way is to participate in Give OUT Day, which we hope thousands of LGBTQ individuals and our allies will do,” concluded Doughty.
Give OUT Day has provided much needed unrestricted operating funds to organizations since its inception in 2013. Over 15,000 individual donors have contributed more than $2.4 million and supported more than 500 different organizations in every part of the country.
Give OUT Day is now a project of Horizons Foundation. Founded as a community foundation of, by, and for LGBTQ people, Horizons has been supporting LGBTQ nonprofit organizations, leaders, and donors for more than 35 years.
