Finalists for $10,000 Giving Circle Grant Announced

State College, PA – The members of Centre Foundation’s Anniversary Giving Circle have narrowed the potential recipient of their annual $10,000 grant down to three education-relation organizations: Discovery Space, Park Forest Preschool, and Schlow Library.

“These organizations will present brief, informative, and unique grant proposals during the giving circle’s annual cocktail reception on September 2nd,” explained Molly Kunkel, Executive Director at Centre Foundation.

“We have had the opportunity to meet with each of the organizations to hear a little bit more about the grant proposals that will be presented and – suffice to say – the giving circle members will have a tough decision to make,” said Tracy Carey, Grants & Scholarship Coordinator at Centre Foundation.

Discovery Space is passionate about making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fun and accessible to girls and boys through hands-on programs. In order to accommodate older school children, the museum is proposing immersive Saturday evening STEM programs. These programs will be committed to providing interactive experiences and social activities that challenge kids in a unique and fun way.

Park Forest Preschool is dedicated to providing low income families with a comprehensive preschool program that includes education, social skills, and developmental motor skills taught by qualified teachers in a friendly, safe environment. The preschool is seeking assistance in renovating the current facilities – including replacing asbestos flooring tiles – to continue their mission of assisting at-risk children to grow and thrive while preparing them for a successful start in public school.

The Schlow Centre Region Library’s project invites the community members to tell their stories through the innovative, one-button technology studio. This cutting edge studio, modeled after the technology developed at Penn State, will provide a studio space configured to produce high quality recordings with just the push of a button. The studio will allow community members of all ages to tell their story through video and audio recordings, as well as provide video conferencing capabilities.

If you would like to cast your vote for one of the aforementioned projects, then please join Centre Foundation’s Anniversary Giving Circle! Membership dues are tiered by age and can be paid annually ($125, $250, $500) or through automatic, monthly installments (about $10, $21, $42). More information is available on our website, centre-foundation.org, or by calling the Centre Foundation office at (814) 237-6229.

Membership in the giving circle provides excellent return on investment. Our members enjoy the social aspect of the annual meeting, learning about exciting new grant projects, and the immediate impact of the $10,000 grant that they vote to give out that very evening,” noted Kunkel.
