Race Across The West The Perfect Entry Into Endurance Cycling
BOULDER, CO (August 12, 2014) — Early registration for the 2015 Race Across America (RAAM) and Race Across The West (RAW) is open. The 33rd year of racing showcased the largest solo field in the history of the race and notable names such as Pippa Middleton, David Zabriske, and the most decorated X Games athlete, Dave Mirra, raced in team categories. Numerous records were set during the 3,000-mile coast-to-coast race (RAAM), from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland. This grueling yet stunningly beautiful race is the ultimate cycling event for endurance athletes around the globe.
A great entryway into RAAM is Race Across the West (RAW), the next big challenge for racers beyond the 500-mile barrier. This 860-mile event made its debut in 2008 and has grown each year. RAW follows the RAAM course from Oceanside, CA to Durango, Colorado. This year’s International race field included 17 (two and four-person) teams, the fastest growing segment of endurance racing. RAW provides an incredible challenge and is also more manageable from a cost and time standpoint, which makes it the ideal adventure for corporate and charity teams.
The best way to prepare for RAAM or RAW is to participate in one of the RAAM Cycling Challenge Series events. These events are held in various locations throughout the year. Athletes can choose to race 200 or 400-mile courses in the solo or team category. The RAAM Cycling Challenge events are the perfect introduction to endurance cycling. They provide participants a way to test their racing skills, while race crews can learn support logistics. Finally, the Challenge Series events are the best way to qualify for RAAM. Many triathletes consider the RAAM Challenge events as the perfect training race for their upcoming Ironman. The 2015 RAAM Cycling Challenge Series calendar will be released soon.
“After an incredible year of racing, we are looking ahead to 2015 with great anticipation. Between RAAM, RAW and the RAAM Challenge Series, there is something for everyone interested in endurance cycling,” Comments Rick Boethling, Executive Director of Race Across America.
