Press Release – WASHINGTON, DC: DKT International, one of the largest private providers of family planning products and services in the developing world, will sponsor and participate in the biannual International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), held in Kigali, Rwanda on November 12-15, 2018.
“We’re excited to once again sponsor and participate in this important conference,” says Chris Purdy, DKT’s President and CEO. “Our mission is fully aligned with that of FP2020 as we continue to focus our efforts toward reaching our Every Woman, Every Child commitment through youth outreach, dynamic social media campaigns, and tactful ways of reaching underserved places where family planning is needed most.”
DKT’s participation will include the DKT Coffee and Condoms Corner, where participants can get a cup of coffee, DKT special edition Fiesta brand condoms (popular in Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique, Iran, Egypt, and Turkey), and access free WiFi. Video screens will run at the booth featuring highlights of DKT’s impact around the world.
Participants can visit DKT’s WomanCare booth to learn about their new global reproductive health marketing and product distribution platform. DKT WomanCare is increasing the number of public and private health providers who can access and utilize a wide range of contraceptives and reproductive health technologies, including the Ipas Manual Vacuum Aspirator (MVA), medical abortion tablets, Levoplant (a contraceptive implant), and Intrauterine Devices (IUDs). Contraceptive products will be on display, and booth visitors can participate in two special events: a Levoplant training and an Ipas MVA training.
DKT’s panelist participation this year includes a representative from DKT Mexico discussing their sponsorship of World Vasectomy Day, the worlds largest male-centric family planning event in history; and a presentation by Elizabeth Nkanda (DKT) and Dr. Jarrie Kabba-Kebbay (UNFPA) of their Tanzania-focused abstract: “An Innovative ‘Health Insurance Plan’ to Reach University Students with SRH Services Through Social Marketing.”
DKT invites members of the media to visit with DKT Country Directors from Anglophone West Africa, DR Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, India, Myanmar and Mexico for in the field stories at the Coffee and Condoms Corner and the WomanCare booth.
The ICFP serves as a gathering place and forum for the family planning and reproductive health community worldwide. Political leaders, policymakers, advocates, program implementers, donors, scientists, researchers, and youth will come together to share knowledge, celebrate successes, and identify next steps toward reaching the goals set forth by Family Planning 2020 (FP2020). This year’s conference, co-hosted by the Republic of Rwanda Ministry of Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, is expected to draw more than 3,500 participants around the theme Investing in a Lifetime of Returns.
Citing family planning successes that DKT has reported for 2017, Chris Purdy adds, “DKT sold over 666 million condoms, 96 million oral contraceptives, and 3.5 million IUDs last year. Through our organization, dedicated philanthropies, and the incredible work of all the people who come together at ICFP, I’m certain that we can make a lasting impact and help change the course of population growth worldwide.”
