DiscoverE Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant

Press Release – Washington DC – September 2018 – DiscoverE, the leading U.S. non-profit that inspires and informs present and future generations to discover engineering, today announced it has received a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc.

The grant supports two DiscoverE signature programs; Global Marathon For, By and About Women In Engineering & Technology and Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. Both campaigns address the under-representation of girls and women in engineering and technology. Through the Girl Day movement, volunteers help K-12 girls realize engineering can be for them. The Global Marathon is an online series of conversations to advance success for collegiate and professional women throughout the world by connecting them to inspiration, information, and one another.

“Motorola was an early adopter of both the Global Marathon and Girl Day. We are grateful for their support and guidance,” said Leslie Collins, DiscoverE Executive Director. “Their financial and volunteer support have affected the large-scale yet very personal impact DiscoverE and the engineering community have when introducing young girls to engineering pathways. Or, when supporting women already in engineering to help them persevere.”

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day 2019 is February 21. The 2019 Global Marathon starts March 6, in connection with International Women’s Day, and runs for five weeks.

“The Motorola Solutions Foundation is honored and privileged to support the work of DiscoverE,” said Matt Blakely, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We believe in organizations that are fostering innovation, building partnerships and driving change, and we’re proud to be part of the positive impact they’re making in communities.”

Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as DiscoverE, to support and advance public safety programs and technology and engineering education initiatives This year, Motorola Solutions Foundation grants will support programs that help more than three million students, teachers, first responders and community members around the globe. There is a specific focus on providing grants to programs that impact underrepresented populations, including females, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans and others.
