CREDO Donates Nearly $1 Million to Progressive Groups in 2014

San Francisco, CA – CREDO, America’s only progressive phone company, has already donated $971,125 to progressive groups in 2014. CREDO, a MVNO based in San Francisco, runs a successful mobile telephone and credit card company to fund progressive activism that advances social change. As part of this mission, every month, CREDO donates a percentage of its customers’ monthly charges to progressive nonprofit groups.

This month, CREDO Mobile will be donating $67,255 to NARAL Pro-Choice America to support its work to stop unconstitutional abortion bans, defend women’s health clinics and confirm pro-choice federal judges. CREDO is also donating $59,984 to Vote Solar, a group that works to bring solar energy into the mainstream and $54,531 to Amnesty International, to support its work promoting human rights around the world.

The three groups, NARAL, Vote Solar and Amnesty International were nominated by CREDO members and chosen from among hundreds of nonprofits to receive funding. CREDO members then helped decide how much money each nonprofit received by simply voting online or via phone or text.

NARAL received 37 percent of the votes, which added up to $67,255 in funding.

Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America had this to say: “We’re proud to stand with CREDO on the front lines of the fight to protect and expand reproductive freedom in this country. We are grateful for their generosity and support of our efforts to improve the lives of women and families.”

Vote Solar received 33 percent of the votes, which added up to $59,984 in funding.

Adam Browning, executive director of Vote Solar: “CREDO helps us create a better world with two of the most abundant resources on earth: solar power and people power.”

Amnesty International received 30 percent of the votes, which added up to $54,531 in funding.

Steven Hawkins, Executive Director of AIUSA: “Donations from CREDO have been indispensable to AIUSA’s human rights campaigns.”

Every month, three progressive nonprofits will be eligible for funding through CREDO’s donations program. In just the first five months of 2014, CREDO has already donated $971,125 to progressive nonprofits and will continue to fund groups throughout the year. To date, CREDO has donated more than $76 million to progressive nonprofits such as Electronic Frontier Foundation, Planned Parenthood and Color of Change.
