Virtually every known human culture has lived with music and felt its influence to evoke emotions, memory and imagination – it is one of the only real universal languages. Cords for Music creates music-themed finery that helps fund initiatives in public schools and underserved communities throughout the United States, where only 17 percent of students have required music courses.
Cords for Music believes in the obligation and power that creative people have to shape the world. The company uses high quality, beautifully made products to bring music inspiration into the lives of children through initiatives in public schools and undeserved communities that might not otherwise have access to funding for music education programs; a vital resource for children as they learn.
Of all the art forms, music is the most inherent, making it also the most effective for shaping a young person’s thinking process and confidence, as well as building their leadership skills. Music has the emotional and cognitive ability to transport, transform and bend the mind around the corners of perception and experience. Transcending cultural and societal boundaries, it’s a means of communication that brings people together, and is a vital resource for children.
Inspired by Coblence’s international upbringing in Paris and New York and his work at world-renowned luxury brands and arts organizations, the brand is characterized by simplicity and beauty with a dose of downtown cool and philanthropic aspiration.
The company’s Core Collection conjures the feeling of awe every child has when they first lay their eyes on a guitar. The designs are refined and iconic, themed around the most intimate tool of rock n’ roll, the guitar pick. The collection is made in America of high quality raw materials such as silver, leather, and a vibrant assortment of cotton colors.
Nicholas Coblence, a New York City-based brand strategist by trade, and arts administrator by training founded Cords For Music in 2013. With a desire to combine his two passions, Nicholas believed that he could create products that would eventually help bring inspiration into the lives of children who otherwise might not be able to have it. In summer of 2014, Cords For Music launched its first collection of Pick Cords, guitar pick shaped sterling silver jewelry pieces tied to the wrist using cotton or leather cords.
