ADVISORY: EPA Announces Grants to Six Universities for Clean Cookstove Research

The United Nations Foundation’s Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves to host announcement event

WASHINGTON – On May 27, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy will announce grant awards to six universities to research cleaner technologies and fuels for cooking, lighting, and heating homes.

The World Health Organization estimates that exposure to smoke from traditional cookstoves and open fires leads to 4.3 million deaths each year. This research will help to improve air quality, protect public health and slow climate change.
