Press Release – (BAYSIDE, NY – November 28, 2018) – Tourette Association of America (TAA), the premier national non-profit organization serving the Tourette Syndrome (TS) and Tic Disorder community, today announced that it raised over $1 million at the organization’s annual Gala at CAPITALE in the Bowery, gathering hundreds from the TS community. Honored at the event was Domenick A. Cama, President and Chief Operating Officer of Investors Bancorp and Investors Bank. The night featured a comedic performance by America’s Got Talent and Comedian Samuel J. Comroe and a musical performance by Trevor Smith.
“We are so grateful to everyone who came out despite the winter storm to show their support for individuals that struggle every day with the challenges having Tourette Syndrome or another Tic Disorder presents,” said Amanda Talty, President and CEO of the Tourette Association of America. “This tremendous support will allow the TAA to fund innovative research, provide meaningful education, and raise the necessary awareness to remove the stigma and improve the lives of all people affected by this disorder.”
Domenick A. Cama’s award was accepted by his son Michael on his behalf. “Receiving this honor from the Tourette Association of America is extremely humbling and a true honor,” said Mr. Cama. “My family and I are proud to support and work with an amazing organization that is doing so much for the Tourette community.”
Comedian Samuel Comroe was a crowd pleaser and shared how he uses humor to deal with the trials and tribulations of living with Tourette Syndrome, including his experience being bullied. Comroe’s performance at the Gala was one of more than 100 clubs and colleges that he performs at across the nation.
