Press Release – SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (Oct. 30th, 2018) – As a result of its online video challenge held in September and October, Festival of Children Foundation (FOCF), a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them, awarded a Gold Level prize of $25,000 to the Best Day Foundation. The NCAM Video Challenge, which was created to celebrate National Child Awareness Month (NCAM) in September, encouraged people to submit one-minute videos showcasing their children’s charity of choice, making a difference through hard work, passion, and a selfless pursuit to help children.

Best Day Foundation is a volunteer organization that helps children and young adults ages 4 -24 with special needs build confidence and self-esteem through safe, fun, adventure activities like surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, snow sports, and more.

“Best Day Foundation is an amazing organization providing such important and worthwhile opportunities for children with disabilities to experience more of the world around them in a safe, fun and interactive way,” said Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, founder and executive director, Festival of Children Foundation. “Their video entry in this year’s NCAM Challenge was not only creative, but insightful and inspiring. We are proud to have awarded them this year’s top grant of $25,000.”

“We are beyond thrilled to have won this award. There were so many great organization supporting children as part of this challenge,” said Brooks Lambert, founder of Best Day Foundation. “This will help us host more events in 2019 coast to coast as well as help us with a couple of key goals to create training videos so we can be even better prepared for our events and help us improve our evidence based practices recording, evaluating, improving and reporting.”

About National Child Awareness Month

The effort to have September declared as National Child Awareness Month began as a local effort in Orange County, Calif., by Festival of Children Foundation Founder Sandy Segerstrom Daniels to raise awareness and focus America’s attention on our greatest asset – our children. The Orange County Board of Supervisors first unanimously designated September as “Child Awareness Month” in September 2002. In September of 2003, the State of California commended Festival of Children Foundation’s efforts and declared September as “Children Awareness Month.” In 2008, the U.S. Senate passed U.S. Senate Resolution 644 declaring September 2008 “National Child Awareness Month.” Since then, Ms. Segerstrom Daniels and Festival of Children Foundation have been successful in having every successive September declared as “National Child Awareness Month.”
