Kohl’s to donate more than $500,000 to hospitals and nonprofits in recognition of associate volunteer efforts
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., August 5, 2014 – Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) will donate more than $500,000 in corporate grants to nonprofits in recognition of the associate volunteer events taking place nationwide in July and August to support health and wellness initiatives. All of Kohl’s 1,160 stores are participating in volunteer events that support children’s hospitals and youth-serving organizations through the company’s Associates in Action volunteer program.
“Kohl’s associates are deeply committed to giving back to the communities we serve. Volunteering is part of our culture and who we are as a company,” said Bevin Bailis, Kohl’s senior vice president, communications and public relations. “We are proud to partner with organizations across the county to support events that encourage families to live healthy lifestyles.”
Through this initiative, groups of Kohl’s associates will volunteer across the country for a variety of events, including:
- back-to-school immunization clinic in San Antonio, Texas
- a car seat safety check and giveaway in Philadelphia, Pa.
- a free dental clinic for low-income children in Dallas, Texas
- an annual “Safety Day” event promoting childhood injury prevention in Detroit, Mich.
Many of the organizations benefitting from the associate volunteer efforts this July and August are current partners with Kohl’s through the Kohl’s Cares® hospital program. The program was introduced in 2000 to reinforce Kohl’s commitment to the communities we serve and to promote children’s health. With funding provided through the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program, Kohl’s partners with more than 160 children’s hospitals nationwide to help educate kids and their parents with tailored outreach programs based on their community’s individual need. These programs focus on a variety of kids’ health and safety topics – from healthy lifestyle / obesity prevention to childhood injury prevention.
Since 2001, through the Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 834,000 Kohl’s associates nationwide have participated in volunteer activities resulting in more than $79 million in corporate grants to qualifying youth-serving 501(c)(3) nonprofits. When associates form teams of five or more to support a local youth-serving charity, the company supports the team’s participation with a corporate grant given directly to the nonprofit. Associates in Action is part of Kohl’s overall philanthropic platform, Kohl’s Cares®, which also includes the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program, Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, Kohl’s Cares fundraising gift card program and partnerships with more than 160 hospitals nationwide.
