Fish4Life is a mobile network of young people, founded by brothers Xander and Beau Peterson, raising capital to help families in Haiti help themselves through the farming of fish.
Fish4Life has made a Commitment to Action through the Clinton Global Initiative to raise $268,400 to support at least 100 families in Haiti.
NEW YORK (May 7, 2014) — Fish4Life, a philanthropic organization aimed at supporting sustainable economic development for the people of Haiti, announced that it will launch its new campaign on Friday, May 9, in New York City. Founded by brothers Xander and Beau Peterson, 14 and 12 years old, Fish4Life encourages kids to become global citizens by giving them a way to directly and significantly impact those in need in another part of the world.
The Fish4Life campaign is a Commitment to Action through the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to raise funds for the Caribbean Harvest Foundation. Caribbean Harvest, founded by Valentin Abe, PhD, implements a fish farming program that creates jobs and a source of nutrition for people living in impoverished villages in Haiti. An investment of $2,684 establishes a family’s fish farm, which generates an annual sustainable income for the family of about $2,280 – an 85% annual return on investment model that gives the participants earnings of about three and a half times the average annual per capita income in Haiti.
“We encourage kids like us to become global citizens,” said Xander Peterson, co-founder of Fish4Life. “To help raise awareness and funds for our cause, we’re launching a contest that will give kids and adults the opportunity to take action and help Haitian families break out of poverty.”
“We traveled to Haiti with our parents in 2011 and seeing the devastation of the earthquake changed us all,” said Beau Peterson, co-founder of Fish4Life. “All of the funds that we raise at Fish4Life will go directly to the Caribbean Harvest Foundation, which is working to create fish farming opportunities in Haiti that provide sustainable jobs for families, as well as a source of nutrition for the community.”
After visiting Dr. Abe’s successful farm in Croix des Bouquet in 2009, President Bill Clinton was inspired by the business model and said, “This is the biggest return on an investment under $1 million for people to chart their own course in life that I have yet seen.”
