Spokane City Council votes to remove “head tax” and reduce business registration fees for Certified B Corporations®

Press Release – On Monday night the Spokane City Council adopted an ordinance to eliminate the city’s head tax and reduce business registration fees for Certified B Corporations.

B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

“Spokane should retain, recruit, and reward businesses committed to sustainability and conscious capitalism. Spokane can be the hub for socially and environmentally responsible businesses in the Northwest and across America.” said Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart who sponsored the ordinance after working with local sustainability advocate Kara Odegard and the Spokane Independent Metro Business Alliance.

Mutu Coffee became Spokane’s first Certified B Corporation® earlier this year.

The ordinance will now go to Mayor David Condon for his signature.
