NEW YORK, NY (November 19, 2013) – On Tuesday December 3, New York residents, businesses and charities are encouraged to take part in a global movement, #GivingTuesday, a national day for giving following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and CyberMonday that serves as the kick-off to the holiday giving season and uses the power of social media to change the way people think about giving, while encouraging people to support the causes they care about.
To help New Yorkers do their part on #GivingTuesday, the 92nd street Y and Mommy Nearest, the local resource for mobile parents, have collaborated to launch a clothing and toy drive with drop off locations at 92Y and at all giggle locations in Manhattan.
All items will be donated to charity partners The Salvation Army, Baby Buggy and Room to Grow. This #GivingTuesday initiative will highlight the importance of charity for the next generation of givers and so parents are encouraged to bring their children with them to donate.
Importantly, to recognize the generosity of those who donate;
- Mommy Nearest will setup a free Holiday 2013 photo “motorbooth” outside of 92Y. Families can step inside the mobile photo booth to take memorable holiday photos with a seasonal backdrop and fun props. Parents can use the photos for their 2013 Holiday cards, checking an item off their to-do list while giving back.
- For each item donated, children will be given “Giving Stickers” to be placed on a giving therMOMeter. For every donation made, Mommy Nearest will match the donation by giving $1 to one of the day’s charities. Throughout the day, collections will be tracked and shared across social media.
- Individual participants will also be encouraged to share their donations across social media by taking an #UNselfie with Mommy Nearest Brand Ambassadors.

The 92Y is located at 1395 Lexington Avenue, near the corner of East 92nd Street. All activities will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.
Participating giggle locations, include their Soho location at 120 Wooster Street, Upper East Side location at 1033 Lexington Avenue near 74th Street, and Upper West Side location at 352 Amsterdam Avenue between 76th and 77th Street, open at 10 a.m. EST.
