600 Employees from Companies Affected by 9/11 Volunteer for National 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Project to Be Held September 16, 2015

(New York, NY – September 14, 2015) – Six hundred volunteers will join the 9/11 Tribute Center to assemble 500 bicycles for children of active military in observance of the National 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. The special event, held in partnership with the USO, will take place on Wednesday, September 16th at 10:00 AM at the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue.

“9/11 Tribute Center volunteers share their personal stories every day at the 9/11 Memorial, providing memorable, impactful tours for the visiting public,” Jennifer Adams, CEO of the 9/11 Tribute Center. “Organizing today’s event for a broader range of volunteers, who are survivors and who lost colleagues on September 11, 2001, shares the spirit of remembering 9/11 in a positive way, and allows them to give back to our military and their families.” This is the eighth consecutive year the 9/11 Tribute Center has held a service event for the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Special guest attendees include members of the New York City Fire and Police Departments and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Volunteers from companies affected by 9/11 that will be assembling bikes include BNY Mellon, AON, Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, CME Group, Commodity Floor Brokers & Traders Association, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Morgan Stanley, Sandler O’Neill Partners, Zurich North America, TWU Local 100, Con Edison, Sciame Construction and All Covered – IT Services from Konica Minolta. In addition to the bikes, each child will receive a helmet to ensure that they are safely able to enjoy their new bike. BNY Mellon is the presenting Chief Executive Leadership Sponsor.

“BNY Mellon is committed to supporting programs that help our military transition back into civilian life, as well as programs that help their families while they’re deployed,” said Daisey Holmes, Managing Director of Corporate Affairs at BNY Mellon. “The USO and 9/11 Tribute Center have created a wonderful event to honor these families, and we’re proud to once again be joining them in the effort. Every year, hundreds of our employees volunteer to build bikes and are eager to show how much we appreciate and support our troops.”

Volunteers are organized into teams for the bike assembly. Stations for building bikes include inflating tires, quality control, ribbons & bows and a note to each child in appreciation for their parent’s service. The project is a team-building and inspirational experience for volunteers to give back to our country in support of the US military. Bikes will be distributed to families of the 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia and Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.

Special thanks to the following companies and departments that donated services and equipment: Apex Xpress Inc., FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, US Army and Coast Guard.
