YWCA Voices Support for Those Covered by the Deferred Action Childhood Arrival Program

Press Release – Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a critical immigration program that allows undocumented immigrants who entered the country as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit. There are anecdotal reports that immigration and customs enforcement sweeps have been wider reaching and less targeted, including a confirmed report of a DACA recipient being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Statement by Casey Harden, Interim CEO of YWCA USA:

“Immigrants who have grown up in the United States have been promised the opportunity under the Deferred Action Childhood Arrival program to continue their lives with their families in the communities and country they know. It is imperative that the clear prescription and spirit of the program be upheld, and that the United States honor the commitment it has made to the 750,000 Dreamers who have received DACA status. YWCA USA firmly believes the Deferred Action Childhood Arrival program must be continued.”
