YWCA USA Voices Deep Concerns for New DHS Guidelines to Deport Undocumented Immigrants

Press Release – YWCA USA finds the memo signed by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kelly on new guidelines for deporting undocumented immigrants deeply troubling. That the administration is considering these proposals, which authorize aggressive efforts to detain and deport immigrants is reason for every American to be concerned. If a plan like this one goes into effect, it would tear apart families and communities, putting even more women, children, and survivors of violence at risk. This is inherently an issue of civil and human rights, and YWCA USA will work in tandem with our partners to counter these efforts.

Statement by Casey Harden, Interim CEO of YWCA USA:

“If the administration moves forward with this, or any similar plan to aggressively target immigrant communities, it will be an inexcusable part of a long history of violent acts against communities of color. Such policies are antithetical to our values at YWCA USA as well as the United States’ stated commitment to freedom and liberty for all.”
