St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Sport Clips Haircuts Partner to Support Childhood Cancer Research

National hair care franchise commits to donating $1 million to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation over next three years

LOS ANGELES (January 28, 2016) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, is proud to announce a new partnership with Sport Clips Haircuts, a national hair care franchise with almost 1,500 locations across the U.S. and Canada. Expanding upon the support of many of its locations, Sport Clips has signed on as a St. Baldrick’s national partner, generously committing to donate $1 million over the next three years to support the most promising childhood cancer research.

“St. Baldrick’s is excited to join forces with an organization that so closely aligns with our signature head-shaving events,” says St. Baldrick’s CEO Kathleen Ruddy. “We appreciate the ongoing support from Sport Clips and can’t wait to see where the next chapter of this partnership takes us and what promising research we are able to fund because of their support.”

During the three-year partnership Sport Clips will support St. Baldrick’s by providing volunteer stylists for local St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events, promoting the mission of St. Baldrick’s at its store locations, and organizing its own St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events, among other activities.

“St. Baldrick’s shares in Sport Clips’ belief that being successful and having fun can go hand-in-hand, and the contribution St. Baldrick’s has made to childhood cancer research is a true testament to this,” says Gordon Logan, Sport Clips Founder and CEO. “Through our partnership, we look forward to hosting fundraising events and doing what we do best – cutting hair – to support St. Baldrick’s important mission.”

Keli Knappage, a Sport Clips area manager in Texas, has volunteered her time to shave heads at the St. Baldrick’s Trinity Hall event in Dallas for more than a decade and is currently raising money for this year’s event. She is just one of many who are excited to see the two organizations working together to give every child a chance at a happy, healthy childhood. For her, shaving heads is the least she can do to help.

“It’s a lot, a lot of fun,” Knappage shares. “I think volunteering with St. Baldrick’s is the best thing I do all year.”
