Norwalk Hospital Receives $35,000 Grant From Newman’s Own Foundation

Gift supporting pediatric development and therapy services celebrates 35 years of Paul Newman’s commitment

Press Release – NORWALK, Connecticut – September 7, 2017 – Norwalk Hospital has received a $35,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation to support specialized pediatric care services at the WCHN Pediatric Development & Therapy Center (PDTC) in Norwalk.

Created by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, the independent Newman’s Own Foundation awarded the grant to celebrate the 35-year anniversary of Newman’s founding of the food and beverage company which bears his name. Norwalk Hospital is one of the original recipients of Newman’s generosity.

As the number of children in the United States with developmental disabilities increases, the demand for specialized health and education services for these children grows. In partnership with Boston Children’s Health Physicians, the PDTC provides a wide range of specialized outpatient services to diagnose and treat children from birth to age 21 with developmental, behavioral and physical conditions.

“We are extremely grateful to Newman’s Own Foundation for this very generous grant,” said Grace Linhard, chief development officer of the Norwalk Hospital Foundation. “We congratulate Newman’s Own on its remarkable 35 years of giving and deeply appreciate this gift, which strengthens our capacity to provide life-changing pediatric development and therapy services for children and families who depend upon us.”

Established at Norwalk Hospital in 2011, the PDTC’s new 7,000-square-foot outpatient facility, located in iPark Norwalk, provides pediatric developmental, psychological, and behavioral assessments; rehabilitation services, including occupational, physical and speech therapies; psychopharmacology; psychotherapy; and support groups, among other specialized services.

“Paul Newman wanted to help make the world a better place, and he said, ‘What could be better than to hold out your hand to those who are less fortunate?’” recalled Bob Forrester, President and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation and Executive Chairman of Newman’s Own. “We are privileged to continue his extraordinary mission through our support for Norwalk Hospital and other organizations doing important work.”

Newman’s Own Foundation is giving $35,000 to 15 of the nonprofit organizations that were originally funded and have been supported for over three decades. The Foundation continues Paul Newman’s commitment to give all profits and royalties from the sale of Newman’s Own food and beverage products to charity. Since 1982, more than $495 million has been donated to thousands of charities around the world.
