Press Release – Boston, MA – The Conversation, a nonprofit news and information service delivering content written exclusively by leading university scholars, has been awarded a $500,000 grant from The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
This is the third grant made to The Conversation by the Sloan Foundation, which is a major funder of original research and education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“The Sloan Foundation has invested millions of dollars in university research over the years,” said Daniel L. Goroff, Ph.D., the Foundation’s Vice President and Program Director. “The Conversation leverages that investment by providing our scholars a channel for sharing their insights with the general public.”
The Conversation’s staff of 16 professional editors works with academic experts nationwide to transform their research into accessible journalistic content, which is offered free to news media. The organization does not charge its readers and does not accept advertising. It is funded by a combination of foundation support and annual contributions from major universities across the country.
“The Sloan Foundation has been a champion of The Conversation since our launch in the US in 2014,” said Bruce Wilson, executive director and Co-CEO. “It is extremely gratifying to have their continued support as we begin our 4th year of publication.”
