About 4 Non Blondes:

Born from the angst of living in a city rich with activism, music and on the forefront of the gay sexual revolution, 4 Non Blondes was formed in San Francisco in 1989. The band formed a musical bridge from an urban underground to music lovers of all genders, races and sexual orientations. They were signed by Interscope records and their musical strength and honesty broke through and crossed over to the masses with their 1992 debut release, Bigger, Better, Faster, More. Their 1993 anthemic hit “Whats Up” and the smash video on heavy rotation at MTV helped propel sales of the album to over six million copies worldwide. 4 Non Blondes disbanded in late 1994.
